Summer time is here, and you know what that means: the best time for games to put out some summer skins and sell them to players, and while we’ve seen it in many games so far, Fortnite is the most recent one to join the trend. While many praised the reveal of some DC Comics-related skins yesterday, that hype is now fleeting, as some players have started seeing some ads with those skins in a censored version.
Fortnite Might Have Censored Its Summer Skins Already
For context, Fortnite unveiled several summer skins for DC Comics characters yesterday, including Batman, Catwoman, Poison Ivy, and Harley Quinn. As you can see in the picture above, all of them are more revealing than the ones we’re used to seeing in the battle royale, which excited many players. Still, it seems that Epic Games might have different plans, as there are rumors of censored summer skins already.
One Reddit user shared a screenshot of what seems to be a Fortnite ad with the aforementioned summer skins. However, they look pretty different, especially the one for Poison Ivy, as it doesn’t have some of the more revealing details we saw in the skins’ announcements.
This has led many players to believe that Epic Games is already censoring skins. If so, it would be strange, as no one in the community has asked for this. Oddly enough, it has been the other way around, as some players saw the cosmetics and have been asking for Epic Games to consider removing the censorship from some other iconic skins, like the one from Cammy from Street Fighter or Kitana from Mortal Kombat.
Now, while that ad clearly shows a different cosmetic, the alleged censorship hasn’t been confirmed by Epic Games. It could well be a style for the skin, which we’ve already seen in other cases. Also, it could be a regional case, but that doesn’t happen too often, at least for Fortnite.
In any case, many players have already started sharing their thoughts about the situation, with some even mocking how Fortnite is just pulling the censorship lever before any community backlash.
“They folded without any pressure.”
“If Catwoman is censored too, my V-Bucks are safe.”
Still, some other users have pointed out that the video ad is now gone, which means that either Epic Games uploaded it by mistake or removed it quickly after the backlash, as many prefer the original skin.
“They deleted the video on all platforms, either they didn’t want to hear backlash on it or they are reverting it, guess we will see soon enough.“
Whatever the case may be, we’ll have to wait for the skins to land in the store. Many speculate they will arrive soon, and if so, they hope they look just like the ones in the image.
