Fourth of July
This article is over 6 years old and may contain outdated information.

Fourth of July is for all Americans. Freedom from tyranny and oppression, freedom to be whoever we want. This is the holiday that we display our freedom to celebrate however we would like. We celebrate in many ways from fireworks, barbeques, flags, but we hold dear our movies. They give us the emotional tie to our patriotic duty and give us our independence. This is Fourth of July pick one of these Top 5 movies to revel in your freedom.

#5: National Treasure

In this Disney conspiracy, Nicolas Cage takes on the adventure of finding the treasure of all treasures that have been passed through the ages. This life goal passed down in his family from generation to generation gave his family a rather unorthodox reputation. He educated himself and developed a vast skill set to accomplish his family legacy. Now with the friends and resources to achieve, he hits a couple snags when he gets coerced into stealing the Declaration of Independence. The film is sure to keep you on the edge of your seat this fourth.

#4: Top Gun

The 1986 Tom Cruise film known to all of us is an American classic, perfect for your Fourth of July.  Maverick (Tom Cruise) is cocky and arrogant and in a team related activity such as being a fighter pilot, he gets himself into trouble with the other pilots. His best friend Goose (Anthony Edwards) is also Mavericks R.I.O. or Radar Intercept Officer, not only figuratively have each other back but literally. Their friendship shakes audiences with laughter and tears, looking at this American pop culture icon, it deserves to be on the top 5 Fourth of July watch list.

#3: Captain America: The First Soldier

What is more American than Captain America, AKA Steve Rogers, not sure anything is?  In his Captain Debut (Chris Evans) brings the wholesome kindness with the strength and brawn of The United States military in WWII. His transformation and willingness to do whats right grasp your attention. You relate to this character from the beginning of the film when he’s a small helpless kid. His one-liner is historic when asked “Whats so special about you” from the Red Skull. Captain responds “Me? I’m just a kid from Brooklyn.” Join Captain America fight for our freedom on the Fourth of July.

#2: Rocky IV

Honestly, there should be no question why this is number 2. on this list. However, any of the Rocky movies could be here, I will clarify my selection. The film promotes a fight between 2 elite boxers ( Actors Sylvester Stallone and Dolph Lundgren).  Rocky wears his recently deceased friends’ colors, which happen to be the American Flag, as a memento for the fight.  Their fight shakes the Russian arena and promotes the American will of ‘keep going’. In this movie, you find your inner tiger and learn to fight for what you believe. Isn’t that what the Fourth is all about.

#1: Independence Day

The unlikely trio of  Air Force Captain Steven Hiller (Will Smith), M.I.T. Alumni David Levinson (Jeff Goldblum), and the United States of America President Whitmore(Bill Pullman) pull together to help defend our planet. The sky explodes with Extra-Terrestrial ships and we learn the true Unity of Mankind. Mankind must join as one in order to survive or we perish. No one can forget Bill Pullman’s speech and it rings in our hearts every year on Independence Day. There is no question that this is the Number 1 movie on the list.
