A female lawyer attempted to cut in line to get off a New York flight, but other passengers were not having it. A video posted on X captured the moment a middle-aged white woman hurriedly tried to get off a plane even though there was a long line of people in front of her. Most passengers were still seated, and a man beside her asked her to wait for the people in front of her to deplane first. However, she angrily told him to shut up. She then turned to the other people who protested her actions and told them they were all “whining for no reason.”
A different man chastised her for not wanting to be patient, but she remained adamant. “Get up when you want to.”
Instantly irritated, the man started to chant “Karen” after saying, “You’re just a Karen, that’s just the way it is.” However, the lawyer said everyone just needs to “deal with it” since it’s not affecting any of them.
The situation began to escalate as more people started to chime in on the matter. The person who recorded the video was also drawn into it when the lawyer asked if she had given permission to be recorded. Another passenger came to her rescue and said it was a public place and she had every right to record.
More heated words were thrown, and the lawyer went as far as telling a man that she could tell he had “said the F-bomb” before because of his accent. Another woman instantly stood up for the Southern man, saying that she shouldn’t insult someone because of their accent. This then led into a discourse about the appropriate use of the word “ain’t” and how it played into xenophobia and racism.
Social media users online shared mixed reactions to the lawyer’s outburst. Some agreed that more line cutters should be called out and publicly humiliated, while others think that the passengers were making a big deal out of nothing.
One user wrote that there’s a “special place in hell” for people who rush to get off a plane, and another commented, “We need to publicly humiliate line cutters.”
In the same vein, someone wrote, “The world needs a lot more public shaming to happen to make this a better place again.” Other people wrote that the woman went through all that “stress and aggravation” to save barely three minutes and would likely still stand with everyone at baggage claim later on.
On the other hand, a user thought that the woman may have been in a hurry because she had to “take a massive dump” and couldn’t hold it in. Another user believes the other passengers were just trying to provoke her for no reason. “…Ganging up like kids – as a previous commentator says, everyone there sucks.”
“I’m on her side, idk because they were making a big deal out of nothing,” one user added. Another called it the most “ridiculous argument ever” because they were complaining about her actions when it didn’t necessarily affect them.
