When you hear “full-time,” you might picture things like a cozy home, a steady paycheck, and a car. But one employed Minnesota man is forced to live in a sleeping bag, despite “outperforming his equally paid coworkers on a regular basis.” Posting his ‘home setup’ on Reddit, he titled his photo: “My current living conditions as a full-time employee in a ‘First World County.'” Whether he meant “county” or “country” doesn’t seem to matter at this point, as it’s pretty easy to get what he’s trying to say: Times are tough.
“No one with a full-time job should be homeless,” remarks a commenter. However, it would seem that thousands of Reddit users claim that they, too, are just a paycheck away from ending up like this full-time employed homeless man. Of course, homelessness and an unfair society have always been an unsolvable problem in the States, but the current political climate definitely makes it all harder to swallow. “Our people deserve so much better,” says one user from Oklahoma.
Others also shared their story of being without a home at some point in their lives, while plenty more agree that the money they currently make is becoming increasingly less valuable to survive. “This is such a huge fear,” comments a Redditor. Although many jobs still offer the same pay they have for years, the tariffs have significantly impacted prices. That isn’t to say there aren’t better opportunities out there; it feels much harder to find them these days. Some commenters recommend that OP become a truck driver, but even so, getting a trucker’s Commercial Driver’s License requires both money and training.
This Minnesota Man Might Have a Questionable History
Amid all this dreary talk of a poor economy and the failing dollar, some people began to take notice of the homeless Minnesota man’s comment history in both his sleeping bag post and others. “Most of my money goes to circumventing the law,” he claims in one reply, which is quite a questionable statement to make. One user who did some digging on OP chimed in, saying, “Your comment history is very concerning…turns out you’re a felon who justifies domestic violence and sexual assault.” Another person added, “OP, I looked at your post history and I kindly suggest you get some help, man.”
Still, regardless of whether this full-time employee living in the woods might be more at fault for his particular situation, it doesn’t stray from the fact that many people across the US are barely getting by. As one person puts it: “The rich just keep getting richer, meanwhile middle class is virtually gone.” For now, we just have to do our best and be smart to get by. Just, when the next election rolls around, it wouldn’t hurt us to be a little more discreet.
