ICE agents certainly love their masks, and many citizens have since wondered whether there are actual human beings beneath those masks or if they’re just robots who follow orders. Well, one woman from Arizona has an answer, and yes, they are not only human beings, but some of them also have an affinity for Mexican-themed food, the very food originating from the ethnicities and cultures they usually target.
This discovery came from TikTok user paralegallylady, who happened upon a Chipotle Mexican Grill in Phoenix, Arizona, on December 8. And while Chipotle is about as authentic to its Mexican inspiration as Taco Bell, the TikTok user nevertheless got angry at the ICE agents she caught eating in the Mexican-inspired restaurant. Here’s a video of her rant:
In the footage, you can see the TikTok user with her smartphone out, taking a video of the Chipotle customers. A couple of groups stand out in the restaurant — men wearing supposed federal badges and logos on their dark clothing. When another woman walked up to the TikTok user asking why she’s “filming everyone,” the TikTok user replied, “they’re ICE.” And indeed, this was later confirmed when one of the men walked up to the TikTok user, handing out a calling card while saying, “I work for ICE.”
When the other woman further confronted the TikTok user, the latter went on a furious rant, suggesting, “People are terrorizing our [expletive] city and then coming into Mexican restaurants. People are concerned. Well, go eat somewhere else, you racist [expletive], go to [expletive] Cracker Barrel. Take your racist [expletive] to Cracker Barrel.” Afterward, the TikTok user then proceeded to film the ICE agents’ car plates. It appears the altercation didn’t escalate further.
The Irony Stands, No Matter Who Owns Chipotle
While many people in the comment section were quick to point out that Chipotle Mexican Grill is only Mexican-inspired or Tex-Mex, or is even owned by a White CEO, it still primarily draws on Mexican and Hispanic culture, especially for recipes (and profit). Hence, people online have pointed out the irony of ICE enjoying the culture but hating its people.
“They love everything about the culture except the people who create it,” according to one X user. “Ain’t no way ICE kicking out Mexicans and having Mexican for lunch. Such an upside down world,” says another commenter. Some have taken to boycotting Chipotle because of the video, though Chipotle hasn’t released a statement on the matter yet, “So we are boycotting Chipotle now.”
In any case, the TikTok user paralegallylady also earned praise for her courage, “Thank you for standing up against facism.” It’s also worth noting that the TikTok user has made it her mission to disturb any unmasked ICE agents she sees in public places, with the slogan, “If we don’t get no justice, they don’t get no peace!!”
