The world of G.I. Joe comics is getting a little bigger as Skybound announces two series joining the Universe. Alongside Image Comics and Hasbro, Skybound is adding two spinoff series featuring fan favorites Destro and Scarlett. Scarlett comes from writer Kelly Thompson and artist Marco Ferrari. Meanwhile, Destro brings Dan Watters and Andrei Bressan into the world of G.I. Joe. Skybound has already released cover art and previews for both series, which are expected later this June.
Scarlett And Destro
The character Scarlett is one of the original members of the G.I. Joe team. She made her comic debut in Marvel’s G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero #1 (1982). Since then, the character has popped in and out of the comics, becoming a fan-favorite character. One of those fans is writer Kelly Thompson who is incredible eager to dig into Scarlett’s character. Especially as the G.I. Joe character is one of Thompson’s first geek loves as a kid. Now, the writer will get to help solidify her place within this cool and expanding universe.
Meanwhile, the character James McCullen Destro XXIV is the individual behind M.A.R.S. Industries. However, there is now a play for power with the emergence of Energon. While Destro has his heart set on domination and power, a new enemy may emerge from an old friendship. Writer Dan Watters is eager to bring Destro to life in this new series. He describes it as a visceral and explosive thriller that shows how evil Destro can be.
The G.I. Joe Universe
Skybound took over the G.I. Joe line of comics after IDW Publishing lost the license at the end of 2022. The publisher officially kicked off this new series with four limited series in November of last year. Plus, it continued IDW’s A Real American Hero series, which originally came out of Marvel. Skybound also announced plans to reprint all the G.I. Joe comics from Marvel and IDW in the future. Until then, these new Scarlett and Destro spinoffs are sure to excite any and all G.I. Joe fans.
Scarlett #1 is on sale 06/05, while Destro #1 follows on 06/19.
