Game of Thrones Spinoff
This article is over 5 years old and may contain outdated information.

Game of Thrones already has several spinoffs in development. But that apparently isn’t enough, which is fantastic news for those who just can’t enough of the fantasy world. Deadline is reporting that HBO is currently developing three more spinoff shows for George R.R. Martin‘s world. Not only that, but we’ve also got working titles that could point to each show’s setting.

The working titles are 9 Voyages aka Sea Snake, Flea Bottom, and 10,000 Ships. 9 Voyages seems to be the furthest along in development as it already has a creative team attached. Leading that team is Bruno Heller, creator of The Mentalist, co-creator of Rome, and developer of Gotham. No writers are attached to the other two projects yet and HBO declined to comment on the news. Last month, HBO and HBO Max CCO Casey Bloys told Deadline of the various areas and eras of Game of Thrones they were exploring for potential spinoffs.

We are talking about other areas that make sense as well. George R.R. Martin’s world is so big and what’s interesting about it, not only is it big but he’s got a lot of road maps in terms of history. So, one of the great things about House of the Dragon is that’s an established history that leads you to Game of Thrones the show, and there is a lot of little branches. There is a lot of opportunities and stories to tell.”

George R.R. Martin has laid the groundwork of a vast world outside the show and books. Luckily, Deadline has done the Game of Thrones homework for us on these working titles and what they could mean. 9 Voyages refers to the seafaring adventures of Corlys Velaryon aboard his ship, the Sea Snake. He became known for his travels, which took him all around Westeros.

Flea Bottom of course refers to a slum in King’s Landing. Several characters, including Gendry and Ser Davos Seaworth, grew up there. Finally, 10,000 Ships refers to Princess Nymeria, who led the remaining Rhoynars from Essos to Dorne following a wartime defeat at the hands of the Valyrian Freehold.

However, these three join an ever-expanding list of Game of Thrones spinoffs. House of the Dragon, a prequel series focusing on the Targaryen family, has brought together a cast and is expected to film soon. In January, we got news of two other spinoffs. One is Tales of Dunk & Egg, based on a series of novellas set 100 years before the show. The other is an unnamed animated series.
