General Hospital’s Anthony Geary comes out of retirement, the delight of his fans. As many of you know, the star retired from acting after his stint as Trent Silver on General Hospital. But he is not returning to the hospital this time around, unfortunately. But what he is doing pokes fun at his old character, so fans of Geary will be pleased either way. Trust us; you did not see this coming. But it’ll be great fun seeing him essentially making fun of himself. Let us explain.

“This Show Sucks”

No, we are not talking smack. So you’ve heard of “This Show Sucks: Truth+Consequences, yes? It’s an insane, over-the-top spoof of all things soap opera. And the show gets some talent from the soap world, making it work even better. Think The Naked Gun type humor, and you have a good idea. General Hospital’s Anthony Geary comes out of retirement to basically make fun of his old character. It’s very meta and makes us appreciate him even more as an actor.

Via Soaps She Knows:

“In Geary’s episode, the series’ ninth, Truth + Consequences’ producer flies to Europe in hopes of enticing back to the drama its former leading man, Trent Silver — played, of course, by the eight-time Daytime Emmy winner. “The decision,” the show’s official logline reads, “could be the difference between T+C remaining on the air — or joining the other daytime soap operas that were unceremoniously being booted from the airwaves.”

It honestly sounds insane and wholly watchable. Soap operas are so uber-serious; it’s nice to see when they can take a step back and laugh at themselves. And for a former Emmy winner to basically make fun of himself is just the kind of entertainment the world needs right now.

The Weird and the Wonderful

General Hospital’s Anthony Geary comes out of retirement. But catch it while you can because he is heading back into retirement again. Very cool that he came back to the role that made him a household name. It’s like running into an old friend.
