With the release of Genshin Impact 3.6, HoYoVerse has once again increased the size of the Sumeru region. This addition has significantly increased the size of the Genshin Impact 3.6 map, offering new quests, chests, locations to explore, and a new Genshin Impact boss. However, many fans have noticed a trend in the new zones of the Sumeru region, which feature both above-ground and underground layers of the map. Although this style provides unique ways to present quests and hidden areas beneath the desert sands, players have found it tedious to deal with the problems a multi-layered map can present.
Why Do Players Dislike The Genshin Impact 3.6 Map
Initially, well before the addition of the Genshin Impact 3.6 map, many players had difficulty finding various objectives on Genshin’s Sumeru map. The icons of Teleportation Waypoints and objectives would have no indication of whether they are on the surface or below. For example, a Waypoint near an objective on the map’s surface would teleport players underground, nowhere near their destination. A Genshin Impact update later added a symbol to denote an icon beneath the surface. A strained relationship between players and the map was already beginning to grow.
Additionally, frustration can come from the actual exploration of underground zones, like those added to the Genshin Impact 3.6 map. Unlike large surface zones, desert tunnels can be difficult and unintuitive to navigate. For example, the large and diverse desert and jungle zones of Sumeru’s surface are easy to navigate and offer many high vantage points to scout paths and destinations. The underground, however, features claustrophobic tunnels that create an almost maze-like environments that are easy to get lost in. For a game focused on exploration, many players felt extremely restricted by these smaller underground zones, including the new Genshin Impact 3.6 zone.
Players, such as popular Genshin Impact Twitter user Teyvat Tabloid, have expressed their concerns about this current map trend through memes and posts. With the new Genshin Impact 3.6 map now available and featuring another large, interconnected series of tunnels, players are exacerbated and looking for a change of pace. Despite some disappointments, the underground zone does present some benefits to the Sumeru region.
Genshin’s Tunnels Work Thematically, Not Mechanically
Despite not working mechanically with the Sumeru region, tunnels and underground zones help create a unique atmosphere. Large hidden temples and various treasures to discover beneath the surface help give places like the Genshin Impact 3.6 map an air of mystery. It also continues a theme of duality expressed in many elements of the Sumeru region. Differences between the desert and jungle, Genshin Impact 3.6’s new characters Kaveh and Alhaitham, and surface and underground, help create an overarching thematic harmony apparent in the zone as a whole.
