It’s usually normal to go the extra mile for your costume this Halloween. However, one man in Athens, Georgia, swung a little too far in the wrong direction, or in this case, a little too “far right” on the political spectrum, because the troublemaker actually wore a Nazi costume to a Halloween party in a local bar; he certainly got the attention he wanted and then some:
The incident happened in a local bar near Clayton St. in Athens, Georgia, early morning on October 24. The man was allegedly identified as 33-year-old Kenneth Leland Morgan, being shooed away from an establishment by its proprietors and also by some of the customers and bystanders. That’s because Morgan was wearing a Nazi SS Officer uniform, hence the woman in the video can be heard repeatedly shouting, “Get the [expletive] out!” at the Nazi cosplayer.
When it became clear to the bystanders that Morgan was there to cause trouble, they had to push him away as he apparently didn’t want to leave and insisted on getting inside the bar. At the end of the video, however, you can see Morgan grab a bottle from one of the women with whom he was arguing and then smack her with it across the face. The woman he hit was allegedly injured, according to an update on the Athens subreddit.
A fight ensued after Morgan hit the woman, and the video was cut. Thankfully, it appears the ACCPD (Athens-Clarke County Police Department) managed to respond quickly to the altercation and promptly arrest Morgan. The Nazi cosplayer was then booked into Athens-Clarke County Jail at around 2:56 AM and charged with Simple Battery and Aggravated Assault, with a current bond of $1,500.
People online were celebrating the Nazi cosplayer’s downfall
Of course, both the people of Athens, Georgia, and those who have seen the video were (hopefully) unanimously praising the bar owner and the bystanders in the immediate vicinity for kicking out the Nazi cosplayer and confronting him. Sadly, people on the Athens subreddit also felt the need to reiterate that, “It’s not cool to be a Nazi – anywhere, anytime, under any president.”
And while Morgan was wearing his Nazi uniform in the context of a Halloween costume, any educated person, like him, ought to know better than to cosplay something that represents genocide and hate, especially one that’s tied to a real-world atrocity. Thus, many people called out Morgan, for he knew what he was doing, “Right? This [expletive] isn’t wearing a costume,” claims a Reddit user.
“This guy stared at this for months waiting for Halloween to get closer so he could wear it out. He tried it on and fawned over himself in the mirror many times before last night,” replied another commenter. Some even waxed a bit poetically about the lessons to be learned from Morgan’s brazen ideals, even quoting Kurt Vonnegut, “We are what we pretend to be, so we must be careful about what we pretend to be.”
