A Georgia man found himself in legal trouble after he made a move that he believed was the right thing to do. The Atlanta native took to the internet to ask for advice after he exposed an affair between a married woman and a catholic priest in his hometown. Now, he’s worried that his actions will come back to haunt him as the woman has decided to sue him.
This week, a man from Georgia posted on Legal Advice Reddit, asking for advice and opinions. The poster shared his story of exposing a priest within his local Catholic church. However, he ended up being sued for defamation by the woman with whom the priest was allegedly having an affair.
“I was sued by a married woman for defamation because I had a video evidence of her intimate relationship with a local catholic priest,” the Reddit post reads. “The evidence is a secret URL link that was hosted on my personal website for which only the Catholic Church and a few need to know people had a direct link to it. This was because I had reported the incident to the Arch Diocese of Atlanta, In hope that they would do something since what the priest did was morally wrong at all levels.”
The man explained that the married woman found out about the video and filed a lawsuit against him for defamation and libel. He claims that he didn’t fabricate anything in the video and that his intent was not to defame the woman but to expose the priest.

“Being a whistleblower now cost me a lawsuit and probably more to come,” he added.
When it came to advice, many in the forum urged the man to hire a lawyer. They also revealed that there weren’t enough details to fully understand the nature of the lawsuit. Some suggested that if the video featured the priest and a married woman in a home or doing an intimate act, there could be trouble. Others revealed that having a hidden link to the video would help the man’s case.
In addition, several commentators on Reddit encouraged the most to take down the post, revealing that talking about the case in an open forum wouldn’t bode well for him regarding the lawsuit.
“Yeah, there are lots of details like this that could be more important than the actual defamation claim. Like how OP even got the video,” one person pointed out.
“You need to stop telling a bunch of random people on Reddit what happened,” another said.
It seems that this Georgia man may have to fight a battle in court when he set out to do something he believed was right. However, the details are few and far between. Reddit user may never find out the outcome of the case, but it seems that there could be a lesson in there somewhere.
