In one Georgia woman’s opinion, this weekend’s No Kings protests have become “too performative.” While the massive turnouts are nice, she claims this doesn’t actually achieve anything, as there is no known directive behind them.
Over the weekend, many came out to join protests held in cities throughout the country. The Georgia woman claims her issue is not the protests themselves but a lack of outspoken purpose behind them. The video has been seen and liked by thousands, with hundreds having mixed reactions to her comments.
She claims this lack is the reason why “a lot of black people sat out and looked at ya’ll like ya’ll was crazy.” She describes the turnouts as nice but claims these don’t achieve anything. After this, she lists examples, such as “when black people marched for George Floyd, we wanted police reform.” The Georgia woman names other victims, stating that when these protests occurred, their demands were clear.
She also alleges that the people being protested against don’t care about the numbers. To her, those people think, “Oh, that’s a little scary, but they’re just going back to their regular [expletive].” She alleges that the biggest problem is that “Everyone’s message is not the same. Everyone is marching for something different.” The Georgia woman doesn’t see any action or consequence after the protests. She states, “Great performance, a great block party, but what did it actually do?”
Georgia Woman’s Comments Receive Mixed Reactions
Several in the comments agree with her statements, with one criticizing, “I heard there was a musical performance.” It is unclear where this performance took place. Another agrees, “Anything after the first one was [just] an excuse to do it.” One applauds her, “Thanks for saying the quiet part out loud!” Some have different perspectives, arguing in favor of protests. One commenter claims one protest outside a detention center got “some of them got arrested.” Another claims, “[We are] making connections, sharing info about local elections and mutual aid organizations.”
The video is getting attention because No Kings stirs up both negative and positive opinions. Her opinion is a bit outside the norm, which has sparked mixed reactions, pushing some to defend the purpose of the protests.
The Georgia woman continues to defend her criticism.
