He may be the King in 300 and the hero in Olympus Has Fallen, but during Gerard Butler’s filming of Plane, he proved to be all too clumsy, inflicting pain on himself. At 53, Gerard Butler keeps racking up features from every corner, whether as a voice actor in Naya Legend of the Golden Dolphin, or as the main character in Jamie Foxx’s All-Star Weekend.
One of the latest Butler filmings was as Brodie Torrance, a pilot in Plane, where he played the hero, saving the day, alongside Mike Colter. For the movie premiere in the Big Apple, the co-stars hit the red carpet with the love of their lives as their date.
Photos showed them wearing wide-eyed grins, but little did fans know that Gerard Butler‘s filming had inflicted on him some new injuries.
The Candid Story Behind Gerard Butler’s Filming ‘Plane’
The actor did not get his most recent injuries as a stuntman jumping off a cliff or driving dangerously, instead, it was due to his clumsiness. During a chit-chat on Late Night with Seth Meyers, on Thursday night, the Scottish star revealed, “No matter what I’m doing, I manage to hurt myself.”
The 300 actor later alluded to being a clumsy guy, explaining that he accidentally burned his throat, nose, and eyes with phosphoric acid. Gerard Butler’s filming as a pilot had required him to hold onto the wheels, but he got some blue liquid —the acid in his hands.
The actor felt he needed to swipe his face to erase his sweat, and unfortunately, felt the substance burning his skin. Thankfully, following instant attention, he recovered, even though it burned for hours.
Gerard Butler Loves Risky Behaviors
In 2017, the Plane star was admitted to a hospital three times. On one of his trips, he had been involved in a motorcycle accident in LA. Despite being a bit clumsy, the actor is unafraid to try risky ideas.
During a self-care episode, he treated a painful inflammation by injecting himself with bee venom. In 2012, after a near-death experience while surfing, he claimed that the sport was addictive and that in the ambulance he thought about going back.
