Square Enix and Limited Run Games have just confirmed the Gex Trilogy – which includes all three games in the popular platformer series – will soon be coming to modern consoles. The announcement was made during the Limited ย Run Games 2023 Showcase. There is currently no release window for the trilogy, but Limited Run Games confirmed that more information will be shared in the near future, likely later this year.

Gex is Back in the Gex Trilogy by Limited Run Games!

Gex was a series of platforming titles developed by Crystal Dynamics and published by Square Enix, Eidos Interactive, Crave Entertainment, Midway Games, and Sony Interactive Entertainment.

The trilogy follows the adventures of an anthropomorphic gecko named Gex with a passion for television and wisecracks about pop culture. In the first game – released in 1995 – he must stop the evil Emperor Rez from overthrowing the Media Dimension, the “world” of all television before it is too late.

The series has since sold over 15 million copies worldwide. The trilogy will see the release of all three titles in the franchise for modern consoles. These include Gex (1995), Gex: Enter The Gecko (1998), and Gex: Deep Cover Gecko (1999).

There were originally plans for a fourth game in the franchise that was slated to be developed for the PS2. Still, co-publisher Eidos Interactive showed little interest in the project, leading to its cancellation. ย In addition, back in April 2022, an unreleased demo for a spin-off of the Gex Jr. franchiseย surfaced online. It can still be downloaded today.

There is currently no information on any plans to return the fourth installment or to continue production on the spinoff.

The Gex Trilogy is slated to be released for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam in the near future. For more of the latest gaming news, please be sure to continue reading The Nerd Stash.
