Metroidvanias of the modern age have proven to be incredibly strong in presentation, gameplay, and overall enjoyment they can draw from players. From indie greats like Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night and Hollow Knight to modern classics such as the infamous Metroid Dread, there’s plenty available for those who tend to enjoy a more difficult challenge in a 2D space. Here to bring its own take on the genre with a unique art style and idea, Humble Games and Old Moon are excited to showcase their newest game Ghost Song! You can check out the announcement trailer for the partnership below.
The Abandoned World of a Lost Moon
Ghost Song sees players awaken on a long desolate moon as a Deadsuit, after an extended sleep that seems to have done nothing more than confuse our friend. Armed with combat-ready tools and a fresh mind, it’s up to you to explore the various locations, uncover forgotten relics of a once rich past, and take on foe after foe in your quest for answers. What exactly happened to lead this moon to its current state? How did you end up crash landed here? How are you going to escape? These are all questions that will be answered on your quest.
While most would see this game immediately and see it as “just another metroidvania”, Humble Games and Old Moon’s Ghost Song seems to tread unfamiliar ground with not just its unique art style but its mysteries as well. Sure, metroidvanias are no stranger to having mysteries that need to be solved, but few dare to tread as much as the game does. It’ll be quite interesting to see if Ghost Song realizes its dreams when it releases down the line.
For now, I’d love to hear your thoughts. Are you excited about what Ghost Song has to offer? Which metroidvania is your favorite? Let me know in the comments below.
