Ghostbusters: Afterlife has pulled in a comfortable $4.5 million during its Thursday night preview according to Comicbook. Most experts estimated that it would bank about upwards of $20 million. With its Thursday night preview, it appears that Ghostbusters: Afterlife could make $35 million-plus over its opening weekend after getting off to a $4.5 million start. The 2016 reboot, Ghostbusters, pulled in $3.5 million during its Thursday night preview, which led to it grossing $46 million for its opening weekend.

I Know Who I’m Gonna Call

ghostbusters-2

With the bad taste that the 2016 attempted revival of one of the most beloved franchises in existence, left in the audience’s mouths, this new direct sequel to Ghostbusters II is attempting to merge the older fans with brand new, much younger fans that may not be familiar with the source material.

Gil Kenan, one of the co-writers of the film, spoke about handling this precious IP with tender love and care:

As ever, when you’re talking about a big film like that that has so many secrets up its sleeve, I’ve got to be extremely careful when talking about it, But I will say, from what we’ve been able to put out there, the important thing is communicating what is earnestly at the center of all this: which is us as writers, as storytellers, Jason and I, keeping the flame lit. The flame that sparked for us — never mind the weight of proximity to the source of the Ghostbusters legend — for both of us as audience members, as pure audience members who were moved and were changed by seeing Ghostbusters. That lit a flame in both of us that we felt like we could keep lit for the people who, like us, shared it as young audience members and a new generation of audiences that could feel that same scope of thrills, terror, wonder, comedy, movie magic. So hopefully all of that stuff lives on in our film”

My name is Javier Navarrete and I am a writer. My background is in screenwriting, but as long as it has to do with words, I want in. Tobe Hooper's 1974 classic The Texas Chain Saw Massacre is the greatest film to have ever been filmed.
