In the 2018 God of War, as part of the “Magic Chisel” story questline, Kratos and Atreus have to solve a puzzle revolving around the four seasons when they reach Thamur’s Corpse. All you need to do is to arrange the symbols depicting winter, autumn, summer, and spring in a specific order. It may sound easy, but if you missed a key voice line, you could be stuck for hours trying to solve this riddle. Here’s how to quickly complete the seasons puzzle in GOW 2018’s “Magic Chisel” quest.
God of War: Seasons Puzzle Solution in “Magic Chisel” Quest
As you follow the “Find a way to the Hammer’s Head” mission, you will eventually come across a room that has stone tablets with weird symbols on them. Once you break a wooden crate on the right side of the entrance, Atreus will reach the sand bowl in the middle of the room. Press Square, and Atreus will read something on the sand bowl. This is the key to the seasons’ symbols puzzle:
“When time itself is disarrayed / The forward path is retrograde.”
Retrograde here means reverse, as Atreus then will point out, “Retrograde? It’s backwards?” Then he will tell Kratos about a song his mother used to sing, which goes Winter, Spring, Summer, Autumn. Unlike the song, which you can ask Atreus to repeat, the retrograde line will be only spoken once, so you might miss it.
With that in mind, all you need to do is line up the symbol based on the song — but in reverse. Use Kratos’ ax to hit the circular shield-like objects beneath the stone tablets that have seasons symbols on them. With each hit, the tablets will display the next symbol. Put the tablets in this order from left to right:
- Autumn (Plant symbol).
- Summer (Sun symbol).
- Spring (Leaf symbol).
- Winter (Snowflake symbol).
