After four years of following the story of Jim Gordon, the FOX television show Gotham will air its final season on January 3rd, 2019. After leaving fans waiting for details such as the length of the season and what they can expect to see, they have finally been revealed.
Gotham stars Ben McKenzie (the OC, Southland) as Jim Gordon on his journey to become the detective that works alongside Batman. While the series doesn’t feature the Dark Knight himself, a young Bruce Wayne (David Mazouz, known for Touch and The Games Maker) is often shown on his own journey. The series has introduced two of Gotham’s well-known villains, such as Penguin played by Robin Lord Taylor (The Walking Dead, Another Earth), and the Riddler played by Cory Michael Smith (Carol, 1985).
An exact time slot has not been confirmed, but its previous one for the last four seasons has been 8 PM EST. In an exciting announcement, FOX also stated this season will have twelve episodes instead of ten. If it runs weekly with no break, that will make the final episode of Gotham air on March 21, 2018.
So what can fans expect for the final season of Gotham? FOX hasn’t been too forthcoming so far, keeping the surprises under close watch. But it has been revealed that there will be a ten year time jump at some point in the season. This will allow fans to see the characters in a more comic-like appearance. Bruce Wayne is expected to complete his transformation into Batman. Penguin will be famously overweight, and perhaps Gordon will sport his mustache. There have been rumors that the true Joker may make an appearance.
Fans have waited five long years to get final closure on this storyline. There is much expectation for this final season to go out with a bang and tie up all the characters’ plotlines in a satisfying ending. Come January 2019, fans will get their answers.
