The fifth and final season of FOX’s Gotham is gearing up to have some very intense story beats.
In a new photo from the season five premiere of the show (courtesy of an exclusive photo from TV Line), Robin Lord Taylor’s Penguin can be seen brandishing a handgun and a smile in front of a crashed helicopter (along with a whole bunch of Wayne supplies). TV Line claims that this moment takes place right after the death of an unnamed “long-running character”.
Though we aren’t sure exactly who the victim is, we can infer that it’s not going to be pretty. Seeing as the writers of Gotham knew that this would be the last season of the series, they won’t be holding back when it comes to shock value. Of course, we can be sure that none of the characters that are integral to Batman’s future will be making their exit here…probably.
At the end of Gotham season 4, we saw the city isolated to the rest of the world by way of the Joker-esque Jeremiah Valeska (Think Bane in The Dark Knight Rises). Gotham City is in disarray, with crooks and criminals alike coming out of their cages to take the city for themselves.
Gotham‘s final season will run for a total of 12 episodes, which is a little bit shorter than we are used to. Titled “The Legend of the Dark Knight”, the fifth season is planning to introduce Bane, one of the most infamous villains in the Batman mythos. The series’ wrap will focus mainly on Bruce Wayne’s official transformation into Batman and feature more “comic-accurate” costumes this time around for the bad guys.
