Gran Turismo is one of the longest-running franchises in the gaming world. The racing simulation games were developed by Polyphony Digital. Developed for PlayStation systems, Gran Turismo games are intended to emulate the appearance and performance of a large selection of vehicles, most of which are licensed reproductions of real-world automobiles. So, today is Gran Turismo’s 25th birthday, and Polyphony Digital president Kazunori Yamauchi celebrates it with a message which reveals the series’ sales figures and more.
Gran Turismo Series has Sold More Than 90 Million Copies
Polyphony Digital and PlayStation celebrate the Gran Turismo franchise’s 25th birthday. As known, the first Gran Turismo title was released back on December 23, 1997, and was met with plenty of excitement from the gaming committee. The latest offer of the series, which always pleases PlayStation and its developer with its sales figures, is Gran Turismo 7, which was released in the past months.
In a special message he shared on PlayStation Blog, Kazunori Yamauchi said that the sales figures of the Gran Turismo series exceeded 90 million as of November 11, 2022. Besides, Yamauchi says the media played a significant role in the success and the 90 million in sales by conveying the series’ allure to readers.
Kazunori Yamauchi’s statement is below:
”In the last 25 years, the cumulative sales total of the series have reached over 90 million copies as of November 16, 2022. And this result is something that could not be accomplished by ourselves alone. Behind that 90 million figure, there are all the people of the media who conveyed the allure of Gran Turismo to their readers. There are the people of PlayStation who sold GT for us around the world with passion, and there is an incredible amount of support from the retailers who interfaced with our users. We appreciate all of your support over the last 25 years. Thank you.”
