Grand Theft Auto 6 Nearing Completion, Rockstar Calling All Devs To Work Full-Time

Cleaning things up.

The development of Rockstar’s GTA 6 is nearing its final phases as the release date inches nearer. The 2K-owned company has reportedly asked all of its employees to physically return to the office full-time for the final stretch. This was confirmed by Jenn Kolbe, the head of publishing over at Rockstar when he informed staff that the hybrid working system is coming to a close, and developers need to come to the office in person to get Grand Theft Auto 6 ready for release.

The reason for this sudden and seemingly drastic change is “productivity and security”. Kolbe believes there are tangible benefits to working from the office as opposed to working from home. While that may be debatable, the security concern most certainly is not. When working from home a lot of company assets are in the possession of employees, which makes leaks a lot more likely. And Rockstar has had more than enough of those.

This switch to in-office work will reduce the likelihood of GTA 6 being subject to more leaks before its 2025 release date. Grand Theft Auto 6 got leaked last year because of hackers, and just when we thought that was the end of it, the official, and extremely hyped, trailer of GTA 6 got leaked a day before its planned release date. This forced Rockstar to reveal the game early and significantly ruined the excitement.

This, by no means, was a hurdle in fans rejoicing for finally getting a trailer for the sequel of GTA V after over a decade of waiting and guessing. The trailer broke records on YouTube, getting over 90 million views in under 24 hours, and currently stands at 178 million views.

Kolbe further iterated that these changes best position the team to deliver GTA 6 at the level of quality and polish it requires. This confirms that Rockstar’s biggest undertaking to date has entered its last phase of development, polishing, and quality control.

This, coincidentally, comes at an interesting time when some leaks are suggesting that the second trailer for GTA 6 is going to be released sometime in May 2024.
