Grease 2’s Lorna Luft Is Excited To Hand Over Baton
The thought of Lorna Luft passing the baton to the next generation of Pink Ladies is exciting to the actress. ET caught up with Grease 2‘s Lorna Luft at the Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies premiere Wednesday,
The iconic actress shared that she loved seeing the legacy of the long-loved franchise continue.
“We had so much fun, and to know that Olivia and John and Stockard — they passed us the baton, and now we’re getting to pass it on to a whole new generation,” Lorna, who wore her original Pink Ladies jacket, said.
The Where The Boys Are actress spoke about Grease 2‘s popularity and its target audience. She noted that just as the prequel will target a streaming audience, the sequel found its fans on cable television.
“I think that Grease 2 found its home with cable television. Because when it came out that weekend, the movies that came out that weekend — what came out that weekend was The Wrath of Khan, Poltergeist, and ET,” Lorna said.
“But then, cable television. And it’s gotten whole new generations of fans, and people love Grease 2.”
Cast of Grease Prequel
The titular pink ladies include Marisa Davila as Jane, Cheyenne Isabel Wells as Olivia, and Ari Notartomaso as Cynthia. The prequel will also see Tricia Fukuhara playing Nancy, Shanel Bailey as Hazel, and Madison Thompson as Susan.
Rounding out the cast are Johnathan Nieves as Richie, Jason Schmidt as Buddy, and Maxwell Whittington-Cooper as Wally. Jackie Hoffman will be Assistant Principal McGee.
Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies focuses on the occurrences that happen four years before the events of Grease. It follows a group of seniors during their final year of high school in 1958 and will show how “four fed-up outcasts dare[d] to have fun on their own terms, sparking a moral panic that will change Rydell High forever.”
It’s been 40 years since the sequel and even longer since Grease graced the big screen. Meanwhile, Lorna, who played Paulette in part two, said she’s not surprised to see it get the revival treatment in 2023.
The 70-year-old shared that Grease is special to her, and she occasionally goes to watch it on broadway. “It really is iconic, and it is such a piece of America,” she said while adding that it is “one of the reasons why everybody loved the film, and they loved the show.”
Grease 2’s Lorna Luft isn’t the only one who will be excited to see the Grease prequel. The iconic movie has many people looking forward to seeing its revival.
