Gremlins 3 is a movie I’ve wanted for years. Ever since I finished watching 1990s Gremlins 2: The New Batch. I’ve loved these movies for as long as I can remember. Ever since my Grandma taped the first film for me thinking it was a lovely friendly children’s Christmas film. How wrong she was.
Gremlins 3 will hopefully come one day and have a darker tone than the second film. In the meantime, it looks like we’ll be getting our dose of Gizmo in a different form. Namely, an animated TV series.
Variety has reported that Warner Bros. is bringing back everyone’s favorite Mogwai in animated form on their upcoming streaming service. However, it won’t be acting as a sequel. The show will follow a young Mr. Wing as he adventures with Gizmo. Most likely trying, and failing, to not get him wet.
You’ll all remember Mr. Wing from the original movie as the owner of the store where the Peltzers got Gizmo. Mr. Wing refused to sell Gizmo and he only ended up in Billy’s possession thanks to his grandson. Obviously, Mr. Wing knew the trouble that Gizmo could bring, he must have lived it before. Soon we shall see just what he had to go through and I can’t wait. I just hope they don’t go too kid friendly and stick more to the tone of the original film.
Tzu Chun is reportedly attached to write and act as executive producer on the new Gremlins series. According to Variety, Warner Bros. has refused to comment so far.
The whole thing makes sense and would be a great start to their streaming service, assuming it comes early on. There’s no news on dates yet but original programming is scheduled to start in 2020.
I’m excited to see more about it and more Gremlins is never bad in my opinion. What do you guys think? Let us know in the comments below!
