It’s not uncommon for AAA games to hit the delay button once or twice before release to ensure quality, and with all the layoffs and market uncertainty, the problem has only exacerbated. But according to the CEO of Take-Two Interactive, Strauss Zelnick, he is very confident that Grand Theft Auto 6 will hit its recently confirmed release window and not be delayed. Although GTA 6 does not have an actual release date, Rockstar did confirm that it will come out sometime around Fall 2025.
Originally, all Rockstar confirmed regarding the release date of GTA 6 was that it would come out in 2025. But that changed last week when the company’s financial guidance was updated, and it limited the game’s release window to fall 2025.
GTA 6 Release Date Is Solid, It Likely Won’t Get Delayed
Zelnick then gave an interview to CNBC, in which he talked about deciding the release dates of projects as big as GTA 6, and how developers can figure out what is the ideal time to get it into players’ hands. He said that under normal circumstances, there are key performance indicators that can objectively tell developers how far along a project is. But since GTA 6 is likely going to be a generation defining game, not only does it need to meet certain expectations, it will have to be “perfect”. And according to Zelnick, “perfection is hard to measure” since it is subjective.
If GTA 6 was to be delayed, it wouldn’t be the first time Rockstar has pushed a title further out right before release. Which is probably why Zelnick is putting fans at ease by saying that this time they’re actually confident that it will make the release window. With that being said, he did caveat his claim by saying that Rockstar isn’t immune to slippage, like the rest of the gaming industry.
