GTA Publisher Owner is Convinced that the PC Platform will become ‘More and More Important’ for AAA Games

Take-Two had to do a double-take

Take-Two Interactive, which owns Rockstar Games aka Grand Theft Auto‘s long-time publisher and developer, has often put the PC platform on the periphery. Consoles have always been their priority, as was evident with Red Dead Redemption and its sequels and even GTA V. That might soon change, however, as Take-Two is realizing the power of PC thanks to recent successes.

The sentiment came directly from Strauss Zelnick, Take-Two’s CEO. Zelnick held an interview with GamesIndustry regarding the Private Division sale. In the interview, he touched upon the studio’s newly realized potential for the PC platform.

Zelnick was asked about NBA 2K25‘s performance, to which he replied that it’s actually doing great. Part of the reason why is due to how they focused on delivering a good PC version. Here’s the rest of what Zelnick had to say about NBA2K25‘s success on the PC:

“PC continues to grow in importance for AAA – that’s a good thing for us. We’re seeing the benefits of that in NBA 2K25. I do believe that PC will become a more and more important platform for AAA titles,” Zelnick concludes.

The Take-Two CEO also pointed out how the company saw a decline in sales for the console and mobile market during and after the pandemic. Meanwhile, the PC market continued to grow for them.

No Big Plans for the PC Platform Yet

While he hasn’t exactly laid out plans regarding Rockstar Games’ PC priority or integration for future releases, Zelnick’s statement does paint a good picture for the PC. Because in the recent past, PC ports of initially console-exclusive games have staggered for too long.

Now, even bigger companies like Sony and other studios like Ubisoft are seeing the potential with their PC and Steam-centric deals and releases. Red Dead Redemption, for example, finally landed on the PC after being Rockstar Games’ console exclusive for 14 years. It appears Take-Two Interactive is enjoying its success and the belated PC port is being praised left and right despite having a $50 price tag.
