If you’re wanting a good co-op shooter with your buds, chances are the first games that come to mind are Left 4 Dead 2 and Payday 2. They’re household names at this point, and ones I’ve put more hours into than I’d like to admit. There’s a hidden co-op gem out there though, and one that feels as intense as it is rewarding. That game is GTFO, a co-op shooter having you and your team traverse a facility while avoiding alerting hordes of monsters. The game has been in Early Access for some time, with a unique content schedule. Players get a new map every once in a while, with only a set amount of time to complete it. After that, the map is deleted and a new one takes its place. The next Rundown, titled Contact, releases on October 22.
Keep in mind that you’ll only have until 1 PM CEST to complete GTFO’s current map, The Vessel. After that, it will no longer be available for play. It’s a strange way to do things, but I’m open to it. It keeps things constantly fresh, and who can complain about fresh content? It works well with the game’s core loop and premise.
For those who haven’t heard of GTFO, you’re missing out. The game places you and up to three other players into a dark facility, where your cooperation and communication are key. You’ll explore this massive complex, avoiding enemies with darkness all around you. Using some proper planning and the right equipment, you’ll complete the assigned tasks and come back alive. That is unless you alert the hordes. Making noise can spell trouble, as these hordes can be devastating with the few resources you have. Will you be able to survive, or will you and your team be slaughtered?
It’s scarily intense, and a game I intend to check out in the future. What do you think of GTFO and its current map? Are you excited about a fresh expedition? Let me know in the comments below?
