Up until this point, we’ve been blessed with voice clips that Lance Reddick recorded for Commander Zavala before he passed away in March of 2023, but as we approach The Final Shape in Destiny 2, we’re getting a first look at Reddick’s replacement, Keith David. In the latest Bungie ViDoc, Becoming Legend Part 1: Confronting Oblivion, we caught glimpses of Commander Zavala being voiced by Keith David for the first time, and Guardians are more than excited to see more of this new Zavala.
Back in August of 2023, only 5 short months after Lance Reddick’s unfortunate passing during the press tour for the fourth John Wick movie, Bungie announced that Keith David would be the new voice of Commander Zavala in Destiny 2. While this news was quite devastating, Guardians found new hope in the fact that Keith David was such a good replacement, but they surely won’t ever forget about Reddick.
Today, in the first part of the Bungie ViDoc, we got to hear a clip of Keith David as Commander Zavala for the first time, and while it’s brought back a lot of memories of Lance, Guardians are looking to the future with hope and excitement. Some key things that fans are most pleased with are the emotion in David’s voice and the fact that we all know that Lance would truly be proud of Keith for stepping up and carrying the torch for him and the Destiny community he loved so much.
