Hearts have been heavy as the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 release date keeps creeping near. Fans know this is the last movie where we will see the whole team of Guardians together. Moreover, many of the cast members are saying goodbye to their characters; another one is added to that list today. While Dave While Dave Bautista says goodbye to his role as Brax, Zoe Saldana is now leaving behind her role as Gamora. This means that Zoe Saldana’s Gamora could be recasted.
Zoe Saldana Wants Gamora To Be Recasted
During an interview with Total Film magazine, Zoe Saldana discusses how she will be moving on from the role as Gamora. The actor had her first introduction to the character back in 2014 in the first Guardians of the Galaxy movie, and it seems to come to a close now in 2023. Still, she hopes the character will live on without her pursuing the role any further. She stated,
“I think the time has come for me to step down, and for the next generation to come forward.”
This is heartbreaking, but it is a moment to recognize how long she has played this character. As a result, her role as Gamora will likely fade out at the end of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 as it is. After watching many of the trailers for the upcoming movie, it seems uncertain whether or not she will remain Star Lord’s love interest. With that being said, it doesn’t leave much else for Gamora to do after the events of Endgame leading up until now.
She went on in the magazine to say,
“The one thing I would not want is for Gamora to go away. She’s been such an impactful character for fans, and especially for female fans, and young female fans. I would love for Marvel to figure out a way to find that next generation of actors that can incarnate these characters, and give them this immortality that fans generally keep coming back to…but me, per se? I mean, I signed up for one, and I got 10 years. Lucky me, man. I have no complaints. And I’m moving on with so much grace and gratitude in my heart.”
We can’t agree that having Gamora recasted would be the best outcome, but it could be an option Marvel Studios goes with. It will be incredibly sad to see a character like Gamora leave Guardians of the Galaxy as Zoe Saldana steps down from the role altogether. Nevertheless, character roles cannot continue forever. Sadly, this will be the last time we see Gamora, as we have known her in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.
