Too often we see videos of people doing dumb things and getting away with it. Usually a friend films the silly antics, laughing at their pal’s stupidity. But, every so often, karma steps in and takes out the trash. In the case of this clip, going viral on Reddit, quite literally.
The clip shows a young guy amusing himself and his friend with some dumb night time antics. For some reason, the guy seems to decide it would be funny to jump up on some roadside dumpsters and try to jump from one to another. Five are arrayed in a chain, like some particularly unpleasant obstacle course.
I mean, most of us have got up to some questionable stuff when we were young, perhaps under the influence of alcohol, but that doesn’t make it any less dumb.
Surprisingly, the guy makes it across three of the five dumpsters without incident. The fourth, however, says nah, not today, son. Much to his friend’s amusement, the guy slips on the lid, which somehow opens up the bin. With a delicious sense of irony, the guy tumbles inside head-first.
Of course, Reddit was as kind and concerned as you’d expect. “Right where he belongs,” one user quipped, a widely-echoed sentiment. Another joked, perhaps a little unkindly, that “He is taking out the trash.”
However, some Redditors were concerned about the incident. “No,” one user commented. “That yellow trashcan is for plastics. He belongs to the black trashcans.” It’s a fair point — recycling is an important part of our lives these days, and we can’t have the younger generations showing such a disregard for our planet by not allocating themselves to the correct dumpster. It’s easy to joke about taking out the trash, but getting it right isn’t always straightforward.
Fortunately for the guy, he seemed to have a few good friends to make sure he never forgot the dumb incident. While one girl screams and checks on the guy when he disappears into the dumpster, the guy filming just finds it hilarious. In fairness, he does have a point, if only because the karma was impeccable.
Perhaps for all the stupidity of the incident, it’s a prescient glimpse into our civilization’s future trajectory. It’d be easy to get downhearted by such dumb antics. But one Redditor saw the rosy side. “The future is here. The trash is taking itself out.”
