Gwendoline Christie, known for her roles in Game of Thrones and Star Wars Episode VII, has confirmed her return in Star Wars Episode VIII.
In a recent interview from People Magazine at the SAG Awards, Gwendoline Christie was asked if she would think Game of Thrones would win a SAG Award. Jokingly bouncing improvised one-liners back and forth, the interview quickly altered when Gwendoline was asked about her role as the only female Storm Trooper.

I made no secret of the fact that I really campaigned for the part for a long time. I was delighted when J.J. Abrams wanted to have me in the film and, also, wanted to cast me in this role that had originally been designed for a man.[/su_quote]
Gwendoline continued to explain the role of a female Storm Trooper and how incredibly important, at this day and age, to have something as genuine and unique by encouraging more female characters to surface.
[su_quote cite=”Gwendoline Christie” url=”https://www.people.com/people/package/article/0,,20979782_20983622,00.html”]– I just like this notion of a female Storm Trooper. I felt it encouraged diversity, and it was doing something new and it was an interesting bit of casting for women. I hope that such a main stream success would breed more of those kind of opportunities for other people. [/su_quote]
Wrapping up the end of the interview, Gwendoline was finally asked if her role as Captain Phasma would be returning to in the next episode.
[su_quote cite=”Gwendoline Christie” url=”https://www.people.com/people/package/article/0,,20979782_20983622,00.html”]I will be in the next Star Wars movie. I think that’s an exclusive, actually.[/su_quote]
Even though Captain Phasma had a very small role in Star Wars Episode VII, Gwendoline Christie’s confirmation of a return character might bring more screen time and play a key element in the terrors the future Star Wars holds.
