Olympic gymnast McKayla Maroney was happy to share her experience as she revealed a medical condition on her Glowy by McKayla wellness Instagram in June 2021. Posting to her lesser-known IG feed, the 28-year-old former athlete braved a raw reveal as she showed photographic evidence of her skin condition, also checking style boxes for a cute look.
Rocking a tube top as she showed red bumps on her arms, McKayla revealed that she suffers from Keratosis pilaris, a.k.a. KP, a harmless skin condition that nonetheless leaves sufferers facing lots of red bumps. Fans were quick to support the Olympian, and they also shared their stories in the comments. Also known for opening up about skin health is mogul Kim Kardashian, who suffers from psoriasis.

“Crazy enough this is actually my KP at its best!! Two years ago It was way worse, I had tons of raised active bumps, and even more redness, and inflammation,” McKayla continued.

Maroney also noted that her KP is worse on one arm than the other, further sharing:
“I have a pretty severe case of Keratosis Pilaris, so being consistent with my KP routine has helped me so much to remove all the active bumps, to stop from more scarring, and red patches.”

Turning towards self-acceptance, the gymnast stated that in an ideal world, she’d be free of KP, but “we all have our issues,” continuing that finding a way to accept them is key.
“I would love to tackle the scarring and redness next, maybe with some brightening vitamin C lotion, and possibly laser or micro needling, but I haven’t done that yet,” she dished.
