Last summer, we reported that the classic video game .hack//G.U. Last Recode (a franchise that also consists of an anime and manga series) was rumored to be coming to Switch at some point. Well, it’s taken a little less than a year, but the Bandai Namco title .hack//G.U Last Recode for Switch is now released.

.hack//G.U. Last Recode was originally released for the PlayStation 2 in 2006 and then re-released as a compilation for PlayStation 4 and PC via Steam in 2017. So, with this being the 20th anniversary of the .hack franchise as a whole (including the anime and manga works) .hack//G.U Last Recode may very well be the perfect experience for newcomers and existing fans everywhere, and all in one single integrated experience ported for Nintendo Switch. Check out the original announcement trailer below.

What is .hack//G.U Last Recode all about?

The .hack franchise is developed by Japanese developer CyberConnect2 (the creators of the famed Naruto Storm series) and focuses on the mysterious events surrounding the crazy popular in-world RPG, which is called… The World. In .hack//G.U. Last Recode players will take on the role of the protagonist, Haseo, as he hunts down the all and powerful Tri-Edge, the person responsible for the death of Haseo’s in-game avatar.

Associate brand manager of Bandai Namco, Summer Nguyen, had this to say, “.hack//G.U. Last Recode is a truly epic and utterly compelling story that consists of four huge RPG experiences for new and old fans of the franchise.” They went on to say, “We’re thrilled to be celebrating the 20-year anniversary of the series by bringing the famed game to the popular Nintendo Switch”. So, this should be a rather exciting chapter in the history of .hack//G.U. Last Recode and all titles of the franchise.

The games bundle is exclusively available on the Bandai Namco online store, and it will include one copy of .hack//G.U. Last Recode for Nintendo Switch, some of the manga and an art concept booklet, and a soundtrack for the game. It sounds like there are quite a few little treats for you to get stuck into now that it is available on Switch.
