Hackers Have Sucked the Fun Out Of Among Us and Pushed Players Away

Would you put up with it?

This article is over 2 years old and may contain outdated information.

Among Us has always had a relatively toxic community; that’s a no-brainer. The game is literally about betraying your team and pinning everyone against each other to find out who’s been sabotaging the ship and killing off your friends. That said, you have to expect a bit of toxicity when you join a lobby, but lately, people have been taking it a bit too far and even bringing hacking into the mix, which makes for an all-around bad time. Hackers tend to make their way into every gaming community, but with Among Us, I’ve been noticing it a lot more recently.

When it comes to gaming, it’s inevitable that you’ll run into hackers every once in a while. Though, recently, I’ve noticed they seem to have a flair for the dramatic when it comes to how they mess with Among Us lobbies. The game’s already pretty crazy and hard to keep up with sometimes as it is, but with added issues that hackers bring to the table, the game is simply unplayable. Considering that I was around to play when the game was first released, and even in previous months before hackers were a big thing, the game is nothing like it used to be.

I, personally, happen to be a pretty big fan of Among Us. The game’s cute and fun and can be an awesome time if you find the right group of friends to play with. I’ve spent loads of hours playing and even streaming the game. For the longest time, I’d get off work and immediately open up Among Us to have fun and relax after a long day. Though, lately, I’ve found myself drifting away from the game for one primary reason — hackers.

The game is chaos, even on a good day, but hackers have turned the game into a chaotic mess that’s on a whole new level. There have been times when I’ve witnessed 7 kills within 30 seconds from one imp, along with at least 4 Emergency Meetings in just as short of a time frame. It would almost seem like some really good imps are in the lobbies… until you remember that there are Emergency Meeting and Kill cooldowns, that is. Other times, I’ve seen people calling out the imposter immediately at the start of every game and calling meetings to have them voted out within seconds of starting. Lately, I’ve noticed that hackers have just created clones of themselves and turned entire lobbies into 10-15 copies of themselves.

Overall, hackers make games like Among Us so much less fun. You can hardly enjoy a match anymore, and the reason is clear. Loads of players, both myself and friends that I used to play with regularly, have stepped away from the game and are looking to different alternatives, like Goose Goose Duck. In reality, Innersloth needs to step up their game and do something to protect themselves from hackers, or I fear players will continue to part ways with Among Us.

Jordan is an experienced fantasy writer who spends hours behind her laptop, and lost in the pages of a book. She strives to be a successful gaming blogger, and has no complaint about the hours of game time she used to increase her knowledge of all things “geek”. She primarily writes gaming articles and fantasy novels. Ark: Survival Evolved is a favorite, along with Diablo 3, Warframe and Minecraft lately, though you can’t forget the good old Magic the Gathering card game! Writing about games truly gives her joy as it gives her another perspective to look at games from, a reason to really look into the mechanics of the game.
