NBCUniversal streaming platform Peacock is getting a new addition as a deal has been sealed to put the Hallmark Channel on the streamer. It will include live and on-demand content from Hallmark’s various divisions of its channel, Movies & Mysteries, and Drama.
The deal is being called by the companies the “first of its kind” to deliver the cable and satellite content from Hallmark Channel, along with its subscription on-demand catalog to Peacock. It will include the Christmas movies that the company has become known for to the streamer as well. The terms behind the agreement were not disclosed.
Hallmark Channel streaming on Peacock for “first of its kind” deal
The streaming game has been viciously competitive in recent years, leading to many cutting cable for higher quality and cheaper shows and movies. This climate has led Hallmark Channel to join Peacock. The streamer is best known for series like Killing It, Bel-Air, MacGruber, and One Of Us Is Lying. It has also released movies on its platform, some of which were exclusive, like They/Them, and others were simultaneously released in theaters, like Halloween Kills and Ends.
The deal is similar to what the streamer did last year to deliver WWE Network to the platform. It has made any event under WWE exclusive to Peacock.
Peacock offers two plans for paid subscribers on top of its free trial. For $4.99, you get shows, movies, and sports with ads. For $9.99, you remove those pesky ads and can download to watch content offline. Unlike some streamers like Netflix, it offers 4K at no extra cost, but its offerings are slimmer, than its rivals with some content having a 4K label.
The Hallmark Channel deal with Peacock shows a different take than many others are taking by aiming for linear paid content. It could lead it to be closer to Hulu or YouTube TV. Either way, it boosts its content to have a better chance in the battlefield of entertainment.
