Halloween Ends premiered in theaters and on Peacock yesterday, and it presently holds the top spot at the box office. Variety reports a projection of $43.4 million for Halloween Ends during its opening weekend. This would make it the first movie to open higher than $40 million since Jordan Peele’s Nope three months ago. The movie serves as the end of David Gordon Green’s H40 trilogy that takes place 40 years after the events of the original 1978 film. The movie features the final appearance of Jamie Lee Curtis as Laurie Strode, a role she has reprised six times since the original movie that marked her feature film debut.
Box Office Projection for ‘Halloween Ends’ Is Good News and Bad News
While a $43.4 million projection for Halloween Ends is good enough to top the charts, the news isn’t all good. Deadline reports that the movie was initially expected to reach $55 million, meaning it is falling more than $10 million short of what was hoped for. Some blame the fact that the film was released both in theaters and on Peacock, while others blame poor reactions from critics and audiences. The film presently holds a 40% rotten rating at Rotten Tomatoes and a C+ grade from Cinemascore.
The good news is that $43.4 million at the box office is still profitable for Halloween Ends since the film was produced for $30 million. Moreover, it’s only the movie’s opening weekend, and it still has an opportunity to earn more in the coming weeks. Still, the film is the lowest grossing of the trilogy and appears to be the least liked among audiences and critics.
