Firefight has fully arrived in Halo Infinite, and we have some tips to help you survive against the Banished. Firefight was originally added as just a custom game mode, but now it’s in matchmaking with the King of the Hill variant. This variant has a hill that you need to capture on top of just surviving. The Banished can also capture the hill, really adding to the tension in Firefight. Of course, you can still play classic Firefight and with the new custom games browser, finding a match has never been easier. Here’s some tips for Halo Infinite Firefight, as well as some of the best maps to play on.
Learn Weapon and Ammo Spawns in Firefight
If you have played the campaign of Halo Infinite, you probably know that fighting the Banished takes a ton of ammo. The same is true for Firefight, where you will likely burn through all of your ammo and then some during each round. Luckily, each map is set up with ammo caches. When you play Firefight on the official maps, all of the weapon spawns are the same as in multiplayer. In addition to that, the ammo stations found in the campaign are now placed around the map. These are static, so they are in the same location every time. Both the weapons and the ammo refill in-between each round, so you can refill. Some maps also have vehicles too, although these don’t respawn between waves.
Fight strategically in Halo Infinite Firefight
The most important aspect of Halo Infinite Firefight is staying alive. While teammates can either respawn or be revived depending on the mode, if the whole team goes down, you lose. That means you need to play smart and know when to push, and when to go run and hide. In traditional Firefight, you have the freedom to roam the map freely, but you will still need to stick near your teammates. Both because it’s easier to fight enemies together and if you run off somewhere and die, your team will have a harder time bringing you back. In Firefight: King of the Hill, the version in matchmaking, you will need to maintain control of a hill. That makes this even tougher, since leaving the hill can cost you the round.
Fight Smarter, Not Harder
If you don’t have a ton of experience playing Halo Infinite or Firefight, you might not know that there is an optimal way to fight the Banished. While each person needs to learn what works best from them, there are a few easy ways to make Firefight easier to win. First, focus on taking out the smaller enemies first. Grunts and Jackels go down much easier than Elites or Brutes but can still overwhelm you if left alone. If you pick up a power weapon, like an Energy Sword or Rocket Launcher, save it for the bigger enemies. If there is a vehicle, like a Warthog, try and use it as much as possible, since vehicles have unlimited ammo. These are all small things but put together will make you that much better at Firefight.
Best Halo Infinite Firefight Maps
Not only did 343 Industries add several multiplayer maps to the Halo Infinite Firefight: King of the Hill playlist, but the community has made a bunch as well. For official maps, you can use any one you want in a custom game, but from the maps added to the playlist below are my personal favorites.
- House of Reckoning
- Oasis
- Behemoth
- Vallaheim (by: HaiseOz)
The bottom three maps all have vehicles and are larger, giving you more space to work with. House of Reckoning is new, and exclusive to Firefight. What makes this cool is that it is pulled directly from the campaign, specifically the late part where Master Chief has to fight against waves of enemies in a small indoor space. Considering that mission was just Firefight, this map is excellent and provides a nice challenge thanks to it being close quarters.
As for community maps, you can find a bunch by going to the Community tab on the main menu. From there, pick the maps section, and put in the keyword “Firefight.” This will give you every community made map that has been uploaded. My personal favorites are listed below with their creator so you can search for them. The first two are recreations of sections from the campaigns of Halo CE and Halo Reach respectively, with the third just being a fun one.
