The upcoming New York Comic Con is set to welcome a slew of comic creators into The Harvey Awards Hall of Fame. This year’s cast of honorees include Chris Claremont, Walt Simonson, Louise Simonson, Marv Wolfman, George Perez, and Bill Griffith. Each of these talented creators has left their mark on the comic industry through years of amazing work. This includes fantastic stories from the likes of Marvel, DC, and other premiere comic publishers. Now, that hard work is being honored alongside those previously inducted into the Harvey Awards Hall of Fame.
Harvey Awards Hall Of Fame Class Of 2023
The Hall of Fame members will be inducted during an October 13th ceremony at New York Comic Con. While all six of the inductees are known for their work in the comic industry, five of them are most known for their superhero stories and heroes. Marv Wolfman and George Perez helped change the shape of DC Comics with the creation of the popular New Teen Titans. Not to mention Wolfman’s iconic work on the Crisis On Infinite Earths series. Meanwhile, Chris Claremont is known for transforming the face of Marvel with his work on the X-Men.
Also making a mark on Marvel is Walt Simonson, who helped shape Thor into the character he is today, and Louise Simonson, who co-created the Power Pack for Marvel. That leaves Bill Griffith, who is probably most known for creating Zippy the Pinhead.
This underground character became a popular newspaper strip, with fresh installments still being released today. Clearly, all of these creators are deserving of a spot in the Harvey Awards Hall of Fame.
What’s The Big Deal?
The Harvey Awards began back in 1988. They are named after Harvey Kurtzman. Kurtzman was a cartoonist who created MAD magazine and whose awards helped single out the exceptional talent in the comic industry. This year’s batch of honorees understand what an honor this is. Both Claremont and Wolfman released statements saying what an honor it is to be welcomed into The Harvey Awards Hall of Fame. Especially as Kurtzman is still a huge inspiration to many in the field.
