HBO Max released new footage of Peacemaker yesterday. The series is a spin-off of The Suicide Squad, and it stars John Cena reprising his role as the title character. HBO Max tweeted the trailer saying, “He’s got the looks, the car, and the best sidekick ever — all in the name of peace.”

The new footage consists of Peacemaker arriving at a restaurant where he is to meet the team Amanda Waller has assigned him to (a team that includes Danielle Brooks as Leota Adebayo). Before he even walks in, he is mocked for showing up in his full costume, a bright red shirt, white pants, and a golden helmet. As he sits down, he explains that people see his uniform and it “strikes fear in their hearts.” This only garners more mockery when he is asked, “What people? The other people at the Village People tryouts.”
For those who haven’t seen The Suicide Squad, Digital Trends explains that in the post-credit scene, Amanda Waller (Viola Davis) assigns this team to work with Peacemaker. This is believed to be an act of revenge for them keeping her from killing the members of Task Force X (a.k.a. The Suicide Squad) when they disobeyed her.
Peacemaker has been described as an anti-hero who wants peace but is willing to kill for it. The Hollywood Reporter describes him as a psychotic killer who thinks he’s America’s greatest patriot. Clearly, Cena’s character has a lot of misplaced confidence. Along with Cena, Jennifer Holland is reprising her role as Emilia Harcourt from The Suicide Squad. Robert Patrick will also appear in the series, portraying Peacemaker’s father who isn’t fond of the path his son has taken.
Peacemaker will premiere on HBO Max in January 2022. Are you looking forward to it? What do you think of this new footage? Let us know in the comments.
