A tense interaction between a Massachusetts homeowner and a solicitor allegedly resulted in the resident’s front door being destroyed. “I told him to kick rocks and he kicked my door,” Reddit user GeoM56 wrote in a post on r/HomeMaintenance. While he was seeking advice on how he could do the repairs himself, many of the comments seemed more concerned with how things are being handled with the alleged violent solicitor.
“Do I cut off the whole overlapping section and replace, or use a wood filler to patch over the broken part?” GeoM56 asked about his broken door. Unfortunately for those curious, he didn’t provide any other context as to how someone would be so upset as to destroy another’s entryway, let alone their property. That said, hundreds of other Redditors suggested GeoM56 get the police involved.
A large handful of commenters said more or less the same: make a police report, then contact homeowner’s insurance about repairs. “It’s definitely damage to property. Might also qualify as assault and/ B&E,” agreed one user.
Another person added that it would also be ideal to contact the business the salesman worked for, since they should have their own insurance to help cover damage costs. “Call your local TV news station and tell them about the story,” suggested a third commenter.
Many Pointed Out That the Door’s Wood Was Already Rotting
There were also plenty of Reddit users commenting on the state of GeoM56’s door regarding the integrity of its wood. “Obviously not justifying the actions of the solicitor but this definitely looks like the bottom of various parts of the door is rotting. There’s clearly rot ins corner that wasn’t a result of being kicked,” points out a user. “Yeah, that wood is rotted and needs replacing regardless,” seconds another individual.
The rotting wood inside the door frame that commenters pointed out would explain how the solicitor broke it easily, unless they put quite a bit of power into their kick. Regardless, that is certainly one way for a salesman to put their ‘foot in the door.’
