Imagine waking up one day and finding your entire life turned upside down. That’s exactly what happened to Victoria, a Mississippi woman who suddenly found herself stepping into the role of guardian for her best friend’s two young children, a 10-year-old girl and an 8-year-old boy.

Her concern went beyond words; she drove all the way from Mississippi to Georgia and stayed for several days just to be with them during the turmoil.

CPS also thought the same thing and fought to make sure this happened despite Victoria living in a different state. Unfortunately, so far, Victoria has only managed to get power of attorney.

The whole situation is heartbreaking, but what makes it better is that Victoria actually wants to raise the kids and have them live with her forever. So her main goal now is to get guardianship. Unfortunately, an attorney told her that the kids have to be residents of Mississippi for six months before she can apply for guardianship. She was also advised to have an attorney in Georgia, but she doesn’t have enough money since she works in a restaurant. The situation gets even more difficult since she doesn’t get government assistance or food stamps. She is also working on getting the kids on Medicaid because she can’t afford to pay for private insurance.
The Mississippi godmother is now everything the kids have, but she has to pay for everything, and she definitely can’t afford to have a lawyer. CPS will also evaluate her in six months. However, she has to live in fear because a judge can suddenly remove custody, and then CPS will pick up the kids and put them in foster care in Georgia. This is definitely a nightmare and not an easy thing to deal with. No one can ignore that most of the time, foster care isn’t good for kids. The two kids have been neglected enough. What makes your heart break is that the kids still ask if they will have dinner because they weren’t used to eating properly.
This is when TikTok can be helpful. Victoria is currently asking for help financially so that she can hire an attorney and do everything she can to raise her godchildren. She started a GoFundMe for this reason and so far has been able to raise $23,585 out of a $26K goal. The story reached people from all over the world, and a lot donated to the GoFundMe, sent money via Venmo, and even bought the kids things off their Amazon wishlist. It is safe to say that the kids would be in good hands with how hard Victoria is fighting to keep them.

Aside from donating money, people tried to offer help in different ways. One lawyer even commented, saying, “Hey Love. Attorney here. I’d love to see if I can help. Let’s chat.” Hopefully, she would be able to help this new family. Others shared how they were praying for Victoria as one person also wrote, “Going from zero children to two children who aren’t even yours unexpectedly is hard. I’m praying for you and your situation! You are a blessing to them‼” It’s a sad situation to learn about. What makes it better, though, is that Victoria is the right person for the kids. Another heartbreaking thing is that Jordan is currently pregnant. It would be a lot harder to get guardianship of a newborn baby. We can only hope that the three kids will be safe.
