A warehouse manager in Arizona was labeled heartless after allegedly attempting to prevent immigrant workers from leaving after receiving a tip that ICE agents were on their way to the facility.
One of the videos shared online showed dozens of immigrant employees inside the warehouse attempting to leave while a security guard stood by the door, using his arms to prevent them from exiting. As more workers gathered near the entrance, some managed to push the security guard aside and began rushing out of the building and running once they were outside.
One of the manager’s associates was heard threatening the workers with charges if they continued filming what was happening. Despite the threat, the majority of the workers continued recording. More employees then managed to exit the warehouse despite the security guard’s attempts to stop them.
Another video filmed by an employee showed the workers while they remained inside the warehouse. She claimed that the managers were holding them “hostages” and said they did not want to open the doors until police arrived. When officers arrived at the warehouse, they reportedly told the managers that they could not keep the employees inside against their will.
The woman then said that employees who were unable to remain inside, whom viewers presumed were undocumented immigrants, managed to escape. She also alleged that some guards physically struck workers during the incident. The woman continued filming and showed a security guard whom she claimed was Cuban but had still attempted to prevent employees from leaving the warehouse.
A third video showed employees apparently trapped inside the warehouse. Guards and managers stood by the doors to prevent them from leaving. Toward the end of the video, a man could be seen standing by the entrance. Employees were pushing against him as they attempted to get out. It was claimed online that the tip about an ICE raid was a hoax, but that claim has not been confirmed.

The video sparked reactions online. Many viewers expressed outrage over the alleged actions of the Arizona manager and security guards. Some argued that preventing the workers from leaving could be illegal and compared the situation to kidnapping. “Looks like kidnapping to me,” one person wrote. Another commenter said, “If someone restricts you like this with their body, do what you can to break it. They deserve all the worst.”
Others speculated that the manager may have been the person who contacted ICE. There was no confirmation of that claim. “I’d guess the manager themself called it in. Dude, call your boss that’s employing illegal citizens. Cops, go apprehend the boss too,” one person wrote. Another commenter focused on the workers’ clothing, saying, “As they’re mostly wearing ‘I [love] my job’ tshirts. That’s [expletive] dystopian.” Someone else added, “What a [expletive] thing to do to anyone, especially your employees. If that company is so concerned about the immigration status of people, then why would they hire potential ‘illegal’ immigrants? Sounds like they should be held accountable too. Mean people suck.”

This is usually despite the workers’ contributions to the business.
