A heartwarming moment took place in California when a man agreed to hug another man with Down syndrome whom he had never met before.
The video began with a man named Cooper hugging Calvin, a man with Down syndrome, who appeared to hold onto him. Cooper added text to the video explaining that he was out running when Calvin waved him over, seemingly indicating that something was wrong. When Cooper stopped to see what was happening, Calvin hugged him.
While still hugging Calvin, Cooper explained that he could not sit down for long because he was in the middle of a run. Despite being in a hurry, he told Calvin, “It’s good to give you a hug, dude.” He also wrote over the video that Calvin had asked him for a hug, and before he could process the question, he hugged him.
As Cooper appeared to be in a rush, he told Calvin that he was going to complete another lap and give him another hug on his way back. Calvin then asked if Cooper could sit down with him, and Cooper agreed despite having a flight to catch. “He clearly just wanted someone to connect with,” Cooper wrote over the video.
The two then exchanged names. “Hey, it’s really good to meet you, dude,” Cooper told Calvin. He also wrote over the video, “If anyone else knows Calvin lmk he seemed cool, but probably needs some help.”
Although Cooper was kind to Calvin and continued hugging him, he admitted that he felt uncomfortable and did not know what to do. The hug eventually ended, and Cooper told Calvin that he would come back. Calvin then innocently asked Cooper if he wanted him to wait there, and Cooper agreed. “I’ll be back in five minutes. Take care, Calvin,” he said before continuing his run.
Afterward, Cooper addressed viewers and described the situation as both “weird” and “cute.” He explained how Calvin had flagged him down and asked him for a hug, while also asking viewers in the caption how they would have handled the situation. Based on how the video ended and a confirmation in the comments, Cooper returned to Calvin as promised and was able to spend some time talking with him.
