Tekken 8: Heihachi Is Dead And Isn’t Coming Back
Tekken 8 confirms the permanent death of a fan-favorite character, and fans are devastated. The list of characters for the King of Iron Fist Tournament includes Kazuya Mishima, Jin Kazama, Ling Xiaoyu, and Jun Kazama, who had been absent from the main roster for over a decade.
Heihachi Mishima, a franchise mainstay since the first Tekken game, has a history of throwing his family members off cliffs or high spots, with his son Kazuya often reciprocating. Despite ‘dying’ multiple times, he has always returned.
However, his final end was in Tekken 7, where he was thrown into a volcano. Despite rumors of his return, Tekken 8 producer Katsuhiro Harada confirms his death is permanent. Heihachi is dead in Tekken 8.
In an interview with TheGamer, Tekken 8 produces Katsuhiro Harada and translator Michael Murray was asked about Heihachi Mishima’s absence from the game. When asked about Heihachi’s potential survival, Murray said, “He looked pretty dead to me” after being thrown into lava.
Harada cited franchise lore, stating that Heihachi doesn’t have the same revival powers as Jin or Kazuya. The development team was also pretty surprised by his decision to kill this character, but they made sure to make Heihachi’s death look permanent at the end of Tekken 7.
Although Heihachi Mishima was Harada’s favorite character, the producer was still shocked to see him die and even expressed some regret in how easily his team complied with his request. Murray jokingly suggested the possibility of an AI version of Heihachi, but the character will not be returning in Tekken 8.
