If you want to prove just how patriotic you are to the top brass, you have to kill 25 Scout Striders in Helldivers 2. It’s a rotating objective typically presented in the Personal Orders tab. Completing it rewards you with a heavy pat on the back from a wrinkled bureaucrat whose lifestyle you must defend, for democracy. The problem is, you don’t know what Scout Striders look like in Helldivers 2. So here’s who to shoot in the field (apart from your squadmates).
What are Scout Striders
Scout Striders belong to the Automaton faction. So you have to seek them out in the Automaton-controlled territories, usually to the left of the Galactic War map. These Automaton units are the ones with armored robotic walkers, piloted by a human-sized mech.
Refer to the image above for what they look like. Basically, look for the “AT-ST Walker” units on any Automaton-controlled planets.
Scout Striders are tough, heavily armored units and although they are slow, you don’t want to be too bold with them as they also carry heavy firepower.
How to Kill Scout Striders Efficiently
If you want to complete the 25 Scout Strider objective fast, you’ll naturally want to play in harder difficulties in Automaton-controlled planets. They don’t appear too often or in groups in the easier difficulties. For best results, try in Medium or higher difficulties.
As for the mission types, you need to gauge how well you can survive in Automaton territories. They’re notoriously harder than Terminids since most of them have ranged attacks and are heavily armored. Moreover, Automatons reinforce often and tend to chase you.
If you can handle Eradicate Automaton Forces, or the 15-minute stationary defense mission types, then go for it. But it can be difficult to stay alive in such a mission type without a competent squad, especially in Hard difficulty or higher.
However, if you want to play it safe, then any 12-minute Search and Destroy mission will do. Just make sure the automaton “infantry” calls for reinforcements by sending flares. This way, you can increase your chances of running into Scout Striders. Once the Scout Striders finally stride in your line of sight, here’s what you must do.
- Use the Grenade Launcher against them. Those work best and can take as little as one well-placed shot to destroy them or a pack of them. The Anti-Material rifle also works well.
- Wear Light Armor with decreased enemy detection stats, or anything that allows you to move away fast.
- If you can circle or sneak around Scout Striders, you can shoot their vulnerable pilots from behind.
- You can also try to shoot the head of Scout Strider pilots.
- Don’t risk it with the mechs and try to go toe-to-toe with Scout Striders, those mechs are death traps.
If you pull it off, those Scout Striders won’t know they’re striding towards their deaths.
