The villains in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom have learned from their past mistakes in Breath of the Wild, and aren’t going to let Link off easy. Slight spoilers about the beginning of the game, but the Master Sword, his most powerful weapon, is inaccessible. Not only that but most of the weapons in Hyrule were somehow damaged, forcing Link to make do with what he had by fusing them together.
Since weapons in the game are hard to come by, it’s essential to take care of the ones you have and use them sparingly. That’s what you would normally do, anyway. But one Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom player has found an exploit that allows you to duplicate weapons, which could be useful when your most powerful weapon deteriorates.
Kotaku spotted a tweet from a user called Modoki_returns who demonstrated how to trigger the duplication exploit and gain an edge in combat.
Duplicating Weapons in Tears Of The Kingdom
If you’re interested in duplicating weapons, here’s what you need to know in a step-by-step breakdown:
- Drop the item you want to be duplicated
- Unequip everything (from both hands)
- Pick up an unidentified weapon; one with the “???” prompt over it
- When the info pop-up shows up, press + button
- Sort items by pressing the Y button
- Equip an item you wouldn’t mind losing (the sacrifice), and then leave the inventory tab
- Open the inventory again, drop the item equipped, and pick it up again
- Voila, the item should now become a copy of the weapon you wanted to duplicate
While it definitely isn’t a quick and easy process and might need some trial and error at first, the exploit can be handy in the early game when the base weapons aren’t very strong at all. However, players should hurry and make use of this before it gets patched out by Nintendo.
Nintendo typically does not approve of exploits and has even removed certain tricks like the whistle sprint speedrunning trick that was widely used in Breath of the Wild. This trick allowed Link to sprint indefinitely without using any stamina by constantly tapping the whistle button while sprinting. This was widely used by speedrunners to get around as fast as possible. It is likely that Tears of the Kingdom players will discover some similar exploits in the near future as well.
So, go try out the exploit whilst you still can!
