A Walgreens employee in Arizona is getting dragged online after a dispute over a clearance price went viral. Viewers overwhelmingly sided with the shopper, with some calling for the employee to lose his job and others arguing the situation could have legal consequences.
Posted to TikTok by @alejandrosanche987, the video shows the creator asking the employee to confirm the price of an item. “You’re telling me even if it scans up seven dollars you’re gonna override it to $34.99,” the creator says. The employee tells him the item isn’t on clearance at that location, adding, “Your misunderstanding is your problem, not ours.”
The creator asks him to scan the item anyway. The video seemingly shows the price coming up at $7, though the Arizona employee insists it is actually $34.99. When the creator points out that he saw the $7 price and recorded it, the employee tells him, “You can record all you want.“
The Comments Were Calling for Corporate
Commenters with retail experience were quick to weigh in on how the situation should have been handled. “EX corporate walgreens employee here, please send this video in and report him. Walgreens does NOT PLAY about customer service. EVER!” one wrote.
Several viewers pointed to Arizona law when discussing the price discrepancy. “AZ law forbids him from raising the price on their error. Report this to the state and Walgreens corporate. This employee is bad for business,” one commenter wrote
Plenty of viewers questioned why the employee was pushing back so hard in the first place. “Does this guy own Walgreens? Why is he so invested? If it comes up 7 dollars then it’s 7 dollars. He should be fired!” one wrote.
Some commenters framed it as a bigger risk than it was worth. “He’s about to LOSE his job for $7.99, not to mention the RUDENESS of the employee,” one wrote. Another added, “These workers are so diehard for a company that will fire him for this video.”
A few viewers used the moment to take a jab at the store itself, with one commenter calling it overpriced to begin with. Another was more blunt, simply saying, “Walgreens is trash.”
The comments tapped into a larger debate about the relationship between customers and the people serving them. While shoppers can absolutely take things too far, many viewers felt this was an example of an employee going out of his way to prove that the customer isn’t always right.
