The issues between Konami and Kojima Productions doesn’t seem to be getting any better as Hideo Kojima’s name has now been taken off of the final art work for Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain even though he said he would be committed to Metal Gear Solid V until its release.
Not only is ‘A Hideo Kojima Game’ missing from the top of the box art also in the lower left hand corner the Kojima Productions logo is also absent from the image.
Earlier this week the Japanese voice actor for Solid Snake Akio Otsuko confirmed the closure of Kojima Productions saying
“Kojima Productions was forced to disband, but it appears that the work that the team has been putting their utmost effort into is nearly complete,”
“I’m not exaggerating when I say that I expect it will become their greatest masterpiece. I couldn’t help it. I just wanted to say ‘Kept you waiting, huh?’ But even if this is the end, Metal Gear Solid is immortal!”
A brief look at Konami and Kojima’s adventure together started back in 1987 with the original release of Metal Gear and followed by 1990’a Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake, but not until Metal Gear Solid was released in 1998 did the full potential of this type of game change the world.
Metal Gear Solid was very well received, shipping more than six million copies, and scoring an average of 94/100 Metacritic. It is regarded by many critics as one of the greatest and most important games of all time, and is often seen as the game which helped popularize the stealth genre.
