“All pie is good pie.” Glen Powell is on to something, along with some dangerous work as an assassin in the upcoming Netflix flick Hit Man, which has uploaded its first trailer (seen below). The actor is going from his recent rom-com to turning on his charms and good looks in a deadly way with Adria Arjona, Austin Amelio, Molly Bernard, and Morgana Shaw. Boyhood director Richard Linklater helms the film with a script that he wrote with his leading star.
The story is based on a 2001 Texas Monthly magazine article by Skip Hollandsworth. It follows a teacher moonlighting as an assassin to help the police catch people wanting to be killers or trying to hire one. He gets distracted as he starts to catch feelings for a client (Arjona), whom he helped escape an abusive relationship.

This is not the first time the director was inspired by an article by Hollandsworth. He used one of his articles for inspiration with his dark comedy Bernie, starring Jack Black as a mortician who becomes friends with a local woman, only to regret the connection.
Some professionals and lucky audiences were able to catch Glen Powell in Hit Man last year. The film hit the festival circuit, leading to early buzz before its summer release date. As of writing, it has 70 reviews submitted on Rotten Tomatoes, landing it at 96%. The consensus reads that the film is a “deceptively dark thriller that’s also loaded with laughs.” For the actor, the roundup describes this role as an “outstanding showcase” of his leading capabilities on screen. For the director, this is “one of the most purely entertaining” from his filmography.
The actor and director produced the film with Jason Bateman, Michael Blizzard, and Michael Costigan.
Netflix will release Hit Man on June 7. Before it hits the streaming service, it will have a limited theatrical run.
