IO Interactive, the developer behind the Hitman series, announced today that their next project is “Project 007”. That’s right people, they are working on a brand new James Bond game that will be coming to “a console and computer screen near you.”
While the recently launched teaser trailer above is only a few seconds long, IO gave a few more details on the website for Project 007. The game is currently being developed and is set to release on “modern systems and platforms” — presumably meaning the recently launched next-gen consoles PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, as well as Windows PC.
Video games are no stranger to James Bond, as the British super-spy has been appearing in them since 1983. One of the most popular of all time being Rare Studio’s 1997 GoldenEye 007 for the Nintendo 64. This game was far more than just a great James Bond game, as it truly changed first-person shooter games forever. If you enjoy Call of Duty, Medal of Honor, or Battlefield then you have GoldenEye to thank.
IO Interactive is best known for the stealth series, Hitman, a game in which you play as a hitman who pulls off stealthy assassinations in third-person shooter style. It is clear that if anyone is to tackle Project 007, IO is the perfect studio to get the job done right. IO is set to collaborate with MGM, Eon Productions, and Delphi to create a “wholly original Bond story exclusively as a video game.”
In a prepared statement, IO CEO Hakan Abrak called Project 007 the “most ambitious game in the history of our studio.” Are you excited about this new project?
