Hogwarts Legacy: How to Complete In the Shadow of the Mountain

In the Shadow of the Mountain is a quest that you’ll need to learn how to complete in order to progress through the main story of Hogwarts Legacy. To be more specific, it is the 42nd Main Quest that you will encounter and complete on your way to learning the secrets of Ancient Magic. Throughout the quest, you will be on the search for the third Triptych Segment so that you may complete the Triptych and hopefully get some more answers about what is going on and how to save Anne. Sebastian will discover some of Ranrok’s loyalists hanging out around a specific cavern and ask you to help him check it out. Keep reading to learn how to complete In the Shadow of the Mountain in Hogwarts Legacy.

How to Complete In the Shadow of the Mountain in Hogwarts Legacy

Before you begin the quest, you’ll want to make sure that you have completed Professor How’s Assignment to get Bombarda and that you are at least Level 24.

Meet Sebastian Along the Coast

Head to the objective waypoint in order to find Sebastian, pictured above.

Travel Up the Switchbacks

Follow the path that leads up the mountain and directly into an enemy camp. Once you’re there, Sebastian won’t be able to control himself and will charge into the battle, leaving you to follow suit.

Defeat All Enemies

Make sure to clear out the area and defeat everyone that you come in contact with.

Continue Up the Mountain

Continue making your way up the same path leading to the top of the m mountain, where you will encounter another party of enemies to deal with.

Defeat the Guards

Take out the Goblin enemies before continuing on through the quest.

Enter the Cavern

Activate the Floo Flame near the Cavern’s entrance, then make your way inside.

Search for Runes

As you make your way through the Cavern, you will notice that there are Rune Locked Doors. In order to open them, you will have to activate 3 runes for each. The first door’s Runes are all in a similar location, making it pretty easy.

Defeat all Enemies

There will be quite a few spiders that spawn in the area that will need to be taken care of. Defeat them all, then head back to the Rune Locked Door.

Unlock the Rune Door

In order to unlock the Rune Door, you will have to attack all 3 of the nearby runes. In order to do this, make sure you can see all 3 of them clearly, then one after the other, quickly attack each of them in one motion, unlocking the door.

Search for the Triptych Segment

After you make it inside the door, you will find one of Isidore’s Journal Entries, Journal Entry 4/7. Collect it, then carry on through the caves to fight the next big enemy.

Defeat the Troll

You will come across a large Mountain Troll that will need to be taken down. To defeat it, you can use Imperius, then attack it while it cannot attack back.

Search for the Triptych Segment

Head back to your search for the segment. Head out to the main room and cast Repairo on the stairs that have been destroyed, and climb up them to the next room. Here, you will find Isidore’s Journal Entry 5/7. Heading into the next room, you will find Isidore’s Journal Entry 6/7.

Unlock the Rune Door

Following the same pattern you used to unlock the first Rune Door, unlock the second one.

Investigate the Chamber

Inside the chamber, you will find Isidora’s Journal Entry 7/7, along with the final segment of the Triptych. Collect the Triptych piece and continue.

Use the Magic Passageway

There will be a magic passageway that leads directly to the Undercroft. Use it to head back to safety with Sebastian.

Place the Canvas into the Triptych

Approach the canvas after speaking with Sebastian and put the final segment in place.
